Biblical Counseling

What Is Biblical Counseling?Biblical counseling is a ministry of discipleship that seeks to help people address life's challenges through the truth, wisdom, and sufficiency of God's Word. According to the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), biblical counseling is "the personal discipleship ministry of God's people to others under the oversight of God's church, dependent upon the authority and sufficiency of God's Word through the work of the Holy Spirit."Biblical counseling recognizes that God's Word provides the foundation for understanding who we are, why we struggle, and how lasting change occurs. The goal is not merely symptom relief, but heart transformation that leads to a deeper relationship with God and healthier relationships with others. Through prayer, compassionate care, and the application of Scripture to life's circumstances, biblical counseling seeks to bring hope, healing, and spiritual growth. How Is Biblical Counseling Different from Secular Counseling? While secular counseling may offer valuable observations about human behavior and emotions, it generally relies on human wisdom, psychological theories, and personal perspectives as its primary source of guidance.Biblical counseling begins with the belief that God is our Creator and that Scripture is the ultimate authority for understanding the human condition. Rather than looking within ourselves for answers, biblical counseling points people to Christ, the truth of God's Word, and the work of the Holy Spirit as the source of genuine healing and lasting change.Biblical counseling addresses emotional, relational, and behavioral struggles while also considering the spiritual realities that influence every aspect of life. How Is Biblical Counseling Different from Christian Counseling? The terms "Christian counseling" and "biblical counseling" are sometimes used interchangeably, but they are not always the same. Many Christian counselors integrate biblical principles with secular psychological models and therapeutic approaches. Depending on the counselor, Scripture may be one of several resources used in the counseling process.Biblical counseling, by contrast, is founded on the conviction that God's Word is sufficient for addressing the non-medical struggles of life. While biblical counselors may be aware of psychological research and observations, their counseling methods, goals, and guidance are derived primarily from Scripture rather than secular theories. The focus is on helping individuals grow in their relationship with God and apply biblical truth to their specific circumstances.Who Do I Counsel?I provide biblical counseling for women and children under the age of 18. My desire is to come alongside individuals and families with compassion, grace, and biblical truth, helping them navigate life's difficulties while finding hope, encouragement, and lasting change through Jesus Christ and His Word."Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ." (Ephesians 4:15)
